Colfax sits atop the north Rim of the scenic American River Canyon, astride I80, at an elevation of 2,500 feet above the valley floor. Serving as a town center for surrounding smaller vacation, retirement, and commuter hamlets nearby.
Colfax has a downtown that also boasts a railway station for passenger service east to Truckee, Reno, and the rest of the nation, as well as west to Sacramento, San Francisco, and beyond. The city of Colfax is just below the winter snowline right where the valley Oak forest meets the vast conifer forest to the east. Colfax’s immediate proximity to the long, straight Interstate 80 provides a unique jump-off point for wondrous recreational opportunities
With a historic town center, and great schools, the city has successfully tempted many urban refugees to call Colfax, “home.”
